About

I am a professional investor, university professor, and business coach with over 15 years of experience in starting businesses, investing, teaching, and managing and working in diverse organizations. I have lived and worked in four of the world’s major cities: Los Angeles, California; Houston, Texas; Sydney, Australia; and Hong Kong, China.

I am currently a partner and Chief Investment Officer at CB Capital Partners, Inc., an investment bank in Newport Beach, California. I am previously the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of MarketThoughts LLC, a financial and investment advisory firm catering to global investors, including the world’s largest hedge funds (e.g. Tudor Funds). In that role, I have beaten the S&P 500 by more than 1.5% annually since inception in August 2004 (with much less risk), and have been interviewed and quoted by the New York Times, among other publications. I have also managed an investment partnership for friends and family, founded/managed the Buck Consultants investment consulting office in Los Angeles, and managed several analysts whilst working in the Buck Houston office.

I am also an Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. In that role, I created the curricula for and am teaching two public policy classes: Leadership in the 21st Century Globalized World; and Case Studies in Public Policy: National Security, Crime, Education, International Development, and More. In addition, I am an instructor in the USC/CFALA Review Program, where I teach the CFA Level II Exam Economics section.

I hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) with a focus on International Policy from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. While at UCLA, I managed a portion of the school’s endowment as a member of the UCLA Anderson Student Investment Fund. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics and Economics from Rice University.

I have earned my Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), my Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and my Financial Risk Manager (FRM) titles.

In my spare time, I volunteer at various business organizations. I am currently the Co-Chair of the CFA LA Society Book Club, a mentor in the USC/CFALA CFA Review Mentor Program and a mentor at the UCLA Anderson Asia Management Students Association.

I am also pursuing my United States Parachute Association AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) certification.
