One giant leap for Henry

I have always wanted to write a blog chronicling my life and spiritual journey, and I finally got off my butt to do it.  I have been writing on the internet since I was 21, but it has always been about finance (I cringe when I read those articles today).   You will find no nuggets of wisdom here, but I hope this endeavor will be meaningful–for me, my relationships, and perhaps those around me.

The last 15 months or so has been a strange, strenuous but mind-blowing journey.  It is an introspective journey, and which I hope to share with you as we continue to grow and our environments continue to change.  The Greek philosopher Heraclitus remarks that “Nothing endures but change,” while the I-Ching, or the “Classic of Changes” (one of the oldest Chinese classic texts) accepts as part of the cosmic order the inevitability of destabilizing changes.  The last 15 months has certainly been that way for me, and for many of my friends.  All around the world, existing geopolitical structures, political economic systems, and even Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity are being challenged.  The second decade of the 21st century is going to be very exciting, and I look forward to taking this journey with all of you!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends who have been here for me during this difficult time.  Thank you for all your help, patience, spiritual support, and tolerance of all my insecurities!  I would love to use this forum to thank all of you individually (starting with those whom I have known the longest).

Bill, Kurt, and Rick: Thank you for all your ongoing support in MarketThoughts; and for all the valuable personal and business advice over the years.  Bill, we can do the fried avocado lunch again in Texas this Christmas.  Kurt, I never know where you are but do give me a ring when you’re in LA.  Rick, my blessings are with you during this difficult time, and I hope to chat soon.

Jasmin and Ty: Would’ve loved for you guys to move here but Houston would do as well!  Thanks for all the wonderful and non-judgmental support.

My Buck boss, Mike: Thank you for taking a chance on me when I moved to LA in 2006.  Really learned a lot from you and love and appreciate your leadership style.  And thanks for allowing me to stay at your place when I vacationed in NYC!

Asian friends in LA: Anthony L, Lilia, and Fai.  I really appreciate your hospitality, great cooking, and the spiritual support over the last 15 months.  Anthony, I will see you tomorrow evening. 🙂

MBA friends:

Anthony A and Iman.  I had tons of fun with you guys and thank you so much for being my first batch of life coaching guinea pigs.  Also appreciate all the free coffee, lunches, and dinners.  Who could forget the spilled coffee (more like a flood) in the lunchroom and (Anthony) wrecking the blinds in the conference room?  Great times, indeed.

Cecilia.  Really appreciate all your support and for being a great listener!   I know you’ll do amazing in HK!

Jeff.  I had a great time sharing my SIF experience with you; and thank you for the wonderful support and companionship.  I’m glad you found something you love to do, and I hope to be able to teach with you down the road.

Pedro.  Sharing this journey with you has been an honor.  I had tons of fun too, and it’s so sad to see you go.  Best of luck in Brazil and I hope we get to work together in the future.

Ryan.  Great lunch yesterday!  Seriously, I really appreciate you sharing everything with me, and I always enjoy our conversations.  Thank you also for being so open-minded and for listening.  I’m glad that your independent film production endeavor is going well and that you’re finding a creative outlet through that project!

MBA/MPP friend:

John.  Congrats again on your wedding with Rachel!  That was the best wedding ever–I could see myself going to Tulsa again. 🙂  Also appreciate all the long and insightful conversations, advice, and introspective exercises.  You’re truly a great friend and I am honored to have met you.

MPP friends:

Maciek.  Wow, if it wasn’t for you, I would not have done the MPP program and my life would’ve been completely different (not for the better).  Once again, thank you for all your patience–from start to finish–and for sharing all your spiritual experiences as well.  It’s been a blast!

Karissa.  You’re truly a wonderful friend and I really appreciate your time, compassion, and patience!  Best of luck in the Bay Area–you’re a wonderful presence and I know you’ll be doing great things for society!
